An authentic katana is hand-forged using traditional Japanese techniques. It features a curved blade, intricate steel patterns, and carefully crafted elements like the tsuba and handle. Many katanas also include a groove called bo-hi to improve handling and reduce weight.

How is a katana sword made?

A handmade katana is forged through a precise Japanese process. The steel is repeatedly heated, folded, and hammered to enhance strength. After shaping, the blade is tempered to create a sharp edge and a distinct hamon pattern, making each sword unique.

Which katana should I choose as a beginner?

For beginners, we recommend a durable and affordable katana with carbon steel, full tang construction, and a traditional design. This provides a good balance between performance, safety, and ease of use.

Can I customize my own katana?

Yes. Our custom katana builder allows you to choose every element of your sword — from the blade length and steel type to the guard, handle wrap, and engraving — to create a katana that reflects your unique style.

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery costs are calculated automatically at checkout based on the product’s size, weight, and your selected shipping method.

How long will it take to receive my package?

To reduce waiting times, all orders are shipped directly from our artisanal workshops in Longquan or Thailand. As each sword is handmade, preparation and delivery times may vary depending on the model and custom options selected.

Estimated shipping times:

Made-to-Order Katanas: These katanas are forged on demand and shipped directly from our Longquan workshop. Preparation usually takes between 5 and 15 business days, depending on the complexity of your item. Once ready, your order is dispatched with full tracking to Australia.

SF EXPRESS (to Australia): approximately 7–15 business days after dispatch.
DHL Express / Australia Post: approximately 7–10 business days after dispatch.

Note: Orders imported into Australia may be subject to local customs duties, GST, or import handling fees. These are the responsibility of the buyer. Kensei Forge does not control or collect these fees.

About pre-orders:

Pre-order items are shipped once the incoming stock has arrived at our fulfilment centre, within the announced timeframe. You will receive a tracking number by email as soon as your parcel ships.
If your order contains both pre-order and in-stock items, all items will be shipped together once everything is available.

I have not received my package — what should I do?

If you have not received your order within 31 business days of dispatch, please contact our support team at contact@kenseiforge.com. We will liaise with the carrier and assist you with tracking, replacement, or refund in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law.
