A katana blade holds an edge beautifully and rusts just as readily. Skip the wipe-down after a handling session and fingerprints will start to discolour the surface within days. This kit gathers the traditional tools Japanese sword owners rely on to keep a blade clean, dry and properly seated in its handle.

What's Inside

  • Uchiko ball to dust the blade and lift away old oil and residue
  • Small hammer for tapping the pegs free when you take down the handle
  • 2 bamboo mekugi as spares, since these little pegs wear with use and should be swapped out rather than reused once cracked
  • Cotton cloth for the final wipe before the sword returns to its saya

About the Choji Oil

Air freight rules restrict liquids, so kits travelling by EMS or UPS leave the workshop without choji oil. In its place you'll find a whetstone. A light mineral oil from your local hardware store does the same protective job between cleanings.

A Five Minute Ritual

Tap the uchiko gently along the length of the blade, wipe the powder off with the cotton cloth, apply a thin film of oil and check the mekugi are snug. That short routine, repeated regularly, is what separates blades that age with honour from blades that end up pitted.

Once the blade is clean, give it somewhere proper to rest. A classic single-tier stand keeps it off flat surfaces, and the black brocade gift box is the right call if the sword is destined for someone else.

Made to Order, Shipped to Australia

Like everything we sell, this kit is prepared to order through our partner workshop in Longquan. Allow 5 to 20 business days before dispatch, followed by tracked delivery anywhere in Australia. Customs duties or GST may be charged on arrival; those amounts are set by Australian authorities, not by us. Full details are in our shipping policy.

Common Questions

Will this kit suit any of your swords?

Yes. Every hand-forged blade in our katana collection benefits from the same routine, whether it lives on a wall or gets taken down weekly.

How often should I clean my katana?

After every handling session, and roughly once a month if it sits on display. Humid coastal air is hard on steel, so blades kept near the Australian coast deserve a little extra attention.
